State visit

Apparantly the president of Ghana is in town, which might explain:

  • all
the Ghanian flags lining the Mall
  • the incredible amount
of police on foot patrol this morning
  • the temporary barriers lining about half of my route!
  • the marquee and bleachers on Horse Guards
  • the tourists congregating around the front of Buckingham Palace this evening
  • the flames burning on the Memorial Gates on Constitution Hill (I’ve only ever seen the flame lit on November 11)

And to think I would have missed all this if I’d caught the tube. Amazing what you discover about the mechanisations of this city when you ride a bike!
